Spectacular P5-7 Pupil Designs for Barracks Greenspace Project Unveiled
For three solid weeks after Halloween, P5-7 pupils were given an enormous challenge to design hundreds of images for the forthcoming walkway around the new grounds of the barracks site in Forkhill. An 800m path will envelope the site and along the walk there will be different stations to explore such as an outdoor classroom for our school and a huge sundial and compass. Giant totem poles of steel will be place around these locations with images of the pupil's artwork laser cut into the poles. Pupils were given themes such as local flora and fauna, wildlife, historic topics such as penal times and specific locations around Ireland such as Donegal, Rathlin Island and Kilkenny to research. Pupils spent a great deal of time researching these themes and produced spectacular silhouette images that could be cut into the totem poles. It was an ambitious challenge, but one all the pupils welcomed. The designs were sent away to be prepared and there was a lot of pride and excitement as the children got to see their images returned and ready for production.
Well done to all the KS2 pupils for producing such quality images. The pupils have been invited to the site in early January to take part in the sod cutting, with a completion date for the major works in May 2016. It is a wonderful reward to have their artwork on display forever more in such a public and local location. Have a look through the pupil's images and see the wealth of research, skill and commitment to the project. Well done everybody!
