P5/6 release salmon with the Ballinderry River Trust
Today P5/6 pupils released over 300 salmon into the village river along the Shean Road, close to Peadar O Doirnin’s grave. Supported by Ballinderry River Trust, our boys and girls worked together in setting free the salmon that the pupils had been looking after in the classroom over the last 6 weeks. Over this time, pupils have been observing and studying them and it was an exciting moment to finally release them. The pupils also took the opportunity to collect a wide range of insects along the river and study them, listening to the advice and guidance from Lisa and Alan from the trust.
Pupils discovered that the salmon will make their way to Greenland over the next months and years and that they will grow to around 5 ft in length. It was a beautiful walk, enjoyed by everyone. A big thank you to Ballinderry River Trust and to all the boys and girls for making the project such a success. Have a look through the photos of the walk.
