Geotourism Workshops for Key Stage 2
On Monday 3rd November, pupils from P4 to P7 welcomed Dr Alison, an archaeologist and Grace from Mourne Cooley Gullion Geotourism to St Oliver Plunketts. Throughout the morning workshops pupils explored the rich history of our amazing surroundings, discovering so much about what is involved in archeology and learning about the spectacular sites around us that act as a doorway into the past. Pupils also explored the different rocks found in our community and traced the formation of our landscape, in particular the Ring of Gullion, back millions of years ago. Did you know the Ring of Gullion was once a volcano that collapsed many years ago? The circumference of the volcano was left behind and we know it now as the Ring of Gullion! A brilliant morning was had by all. Look in the gallery section and view some of the pictures of the workshops.
