St. Oliver Plunkett’s Primary School Forkhill

Forkhill Greenspace Launch.

23rd Jun 2017

It was another busy day in school with the official opening of the new Greenspace pathway. Today local councillors and agencies involved in the planning and work of the spectacular 800m walkway around the old Forkhill Barrack site came together to mark the collaborative effort to bring this area to life.

Throughout the year KS2 pupils have lead the way and were involved in the design process, where they created hundreds of artwork sketches that were laser cut onto steel and recycled plastic totem poles around a newly designed outdoor classroom. Later in the year our pupils also planted hundreds of trees around the site and were celebrities when BBC Newsline came to record this landmark occasion. Having put such effort into the site, pupils were officially invited to the opening ceremony today.

Everyone involved was invited to the school afterwards and were treated to tea and buns. All the speeches echoed the many positive and successful elements that this space has brought. The school is very fortunate to have such a brilliant space beside them and every opportunity to utilise the space will be eagerly used by the school in the future.
